CHICAGO -- After hitting his first career grand slam, Junior Lake came up next time with runners on first and second with nobody out. Roger Clemens Jersey . But instead of swinging for the fences, the 23-year-old rookie dropped down a bunt for a base hit that eventually led to two runs. That extra offence proved vital in the Cubs 8-5 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday. "Youve either savvy or youre not a very selfish player because its hard to go up there after hitting a grand slam and not think about having two homers and seven ribbies in your pocket," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said. "But that led to bases loaded and nobody out and we ended up getting two out of it. Its nice to see a guy thinking about other things other than his own stats." Lake, who went 2 for 4 and has hit five homers since being called up on July 19, said that was what he was thinking. "Im just doing whats best for the team," he said through an interpreter. "I can get the bunt down and beat it out for a base hit to load the bases, or if Im out, its like a sacrifice. "I have confidence in my teammates." The Cubs jumped on Brewers starter Kyle Lohse (9-9) in the first inning. Nate Schierholtz singled with one out and runners on first and second to drive in the first run. Two batters later, Lake homered on a 1-0 slider to complete the five-run inning. "He missed location a lot. And when he missed location, they didnt miss the pitch," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said of Lohse. "He didnt make too many quality pitches there the first inning." The Brewers scored in the second and third innings to make it 5-2. Cubs starter Chris Rusin made it 7-2 with a two-run single in the bottom of the third after Lake had his bunt single. Rusin had more success at the plate than on the mound. After getting the first two outs in the fourth, he gave up consecutive hits to Norichika Aoki and Jean Segura, and was pulled from the game. With right-handed power hitter Jonathan Lucroy due up, Sveum replaced the left-handed Rusin with right-hander Carlos Villanueva (5-8) and he got the final out in the inning and earned the victory. "I was wild today, just a little wild and I had a tough time trying to find a rhythm," Rusin said. "But the bullpen did a good job. They came in and closed the door." Said Sveum: "He got his pitch count up and I think he would tell you he didnt have his best stuff or command today. But it was huge coming up with that hit, thats for sure." Especially after Milwaukees Scooter Gennett hit a pinch-hit three-run homer off Pedro Strop to make it 7-5 in the eighth. The Cubs added a run in the inning when Donnie Murphy led off with a single and scored on shortstop Seguras throwing error. Kevin Gregg got the final three outs for his 30th save in 35 chances. "Its kind of always one of those benchmarks for a closer," Gregg said of 30 saves. "From the way my year started, its pretty exciting to get to. "Being released out of spring training and not having a job for the first two weeks of the season, it was a pleasant surprise, I guess." NOTES: The Cubs activated recently acquired RHP Daniel Bard before the game, but whether he pitches in a game this season remains to be seen. Before he throws in a game, the Cubs at least want to see him throw on the side a couple of times. After battling an abdominal strain this season, Bard said hes healthy and hopes to correct the problems with mechanics he believes robbed him of his high-90s fastball while with the Boston Red Sox. ... Khris Davis was in the Brewers lineup playing left field and batting sixth, but was scratched because of soreness in his left wrist. He is listed day to day. ... The Cubs announced that RHP Scott Baker will start the series finale Sunday. It will be his first start since undergoing Tommy John surgery last year. ... The Cubs Jake Arrieta (2-1) will face Johnny Hellweg (0-3) on Saturday. Braden Calverts Winnipeg rink rallied to defeat Italy 8-7. After giving up three points in the second end, Calvert came back with a single, then stole two more points in the next two ends to tie it up at the fifth-end break. http://www.teambluejaysprostore.us/Devon-Travis-blue-jays-jersey/ . Its not intended to be some magical formula and doesnt apply any context, like, for example, taking injuries into account. This remedial statistical method has gone 9-5 in picks through the first three rounds.MONTREAL - The Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings were all over the Canadiens on Friday night, but that didnt matter to Montreal goaltender Carey Price. The goalie who backstopped Canada to gold at the 2014 Winter Olympics was at his all-world best as the Canadiens pulled out a 6-2 victory despite being dominated territorially and being outshot 46-20.There was a little bit of (Dominik) Hasek in net today, a little bit of Patrick Roy, Martin Brodeur and a little bit of Carey Price, Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban said, listing a few of the all-time greats. The same could not be said of Kings backup goalie Martin Jones, who came into the game with shutouts in his last two matches but allowed three goals on the first eight shots.Subban and David Desharnais each had a goal and an assist while Jiri Sekac, with two, Andre Markov and Sven Andrighetto also scored for Montreal (19-10-2). The Canadiens won a second game in a row, thanks to Price.Hes a great goaltender and he has the ability to make great saves, added Subban. Theres only a few goaltenders in the league that can do that and hes definitely one of them. Its not a surprise to us seeing him do that but to be able to see him do it against one of the best teams in the league, thats what we need.Defencemen Jake Muzzin and Drew Doughty scored for the Kings (15-10-5), who have lost three of their last four but were coming off a 5-3 win Thursday night in Ottawa. They played well enough to win in Montreal. Dustin Brown had eight shots, but didnt have a point and went minus-3. Trevor Lewis fired seven times and Muzzin six.We had a lot of really good chances, said Kings coach Darryl Sutter. We totally dominated the first period. I think Carey Price was really, really good, wasnt he?The Kings, as a team, have been labouring to score this season, with top end players like Anze Kopitar, Marian Gaborik and Brown all well below their usual scoring pace. After a five-goal outburst in Ottawa, The frustration returned in Montreal. We had the puck a lot and we created a lot, but no goals at the end of it, said Muzzin. You need goals to win.I thought we battled back and stuck with it and continued trying to fight and get some more goals. It just wasnt happening.Price had an answer for nearly everything until Muzzin and Doughty broke through in the third period. There was a furry in the second period, it was just desperation, Price said, recalling his busiest moments. There was one in the first on Drew. He gott me back in the third. Josh Donaldson Jersey. Just playing the odds and getting lucky out there. Just trying to keep it simple, stupid.Price is 16-8-1 and has two shutouts, but could not have had a better game this season. The 46 shots and 44 saves were season highs. We were definitely opportunistic, he said. We capitalized on the few chances we got.Thats a good hockey club over there. They played well. The score doesnt indicate how the game went. Well take the two points, obviously. The Kings owned the puck in the first, outshooting Montreal 14-4. But the Canadiens got the only goal.Doughty had served only four seconds of an interference call when Tomas Plekanec won a draw to the point, and Subbans point shot beat Jones at 8:16 off a deflection in front. Montreal didnt get a shot the rest of the period. The Canadiens had a man advantage to start the second frame and Markov scored on a point shot that was deflected at 1:01. Only 2:44 later, Subban one-timed a drop pass from Dale Weise and saw the puck trickle through Joness pads. Manny Malhotra got his first point in 31 games as a Canadien on the goal.Muzzin scored on the Kings 34th shot at 3:35 of the third when his wrist shot from the point went in off Markovs hand.Desharnais scored his first goal in 13 games since Nov. 15 when he one-timed P.A. Parenteaus pass in on a two-on-one 9:47 into the third.Only 1:01 later, Doughty beat Price cleanly with a shot from the right side.Andrighetto was alone in the right circle to swipe in Michael Bournivals pass at 13:59. The Swiss rookie has one point in each of his first three NHL games. Sekac got another at 15:26 on a bad-angled shot with Jones down.Sometimes quality over quantity is more important, said price. Tonight was one of those instances where they got a lot of so-called stat-padders. But for the most part, I thought we did a good job of picking up the rebounds in front. They didnt get a whole lot of second chances. Notes: Jones shutout streak lasted 154 minutes 17 seconds. . . Jones made 31 saves when the Kings won 6-0 on their last visit to Montreal last December. . . Parenteau went off for repairs late in the first period after being clipped in an eye by Marian Gaboriks stick, but was back to start the second. . . Montreals Brandon Prust got an assist in his 400th NHL game. He has 31 goals, 98 points and 907 penalty minutes. . . . The Canadiens sent Eric Tangradi down to the American Hockey Leagues Hamilton Bulldogs after the game.
