Yesterday evening - a few hours after he signed his new contract extension with the Ottawa Senators - Bobby Ryan posted a fairly harmless tweet about the Thursday night NFL game. Marquinhos Jersey . @b_ryan9: Oh man. Is Rodgers going to throw for 450 tonight? The reaction was immediate and harsh. And no, it wasnt from Minnesota Vikings fans who were upset with Ryans comment about how Aaron Rodgers was carving up their defense. Instead, the first responders to the tweet were a wave of Philadelphia Flyers fans who were crushed that Ryan had chosen to stay with Ottawa instead of becoming a free agent and returning to his hometown near Philadelphia. A small sampling of the responses: @SauceItup: @b_ryan9: Are you coming to Philly? Should answer your question. Sad @FlyersNation: @b_ryan9: Why Bobby why @FlyersTime: @b_ryan9: you betrayed us #flyers @jDundon29: @b_ryan9: Well well its Bobby no Philly Ryan So after his media scrum ended this morning, I decided to ask Ryan if he paid much attention to the negativity coming out of Philadelphia since he signed his contract extension 24 hours earlier. He immediately started to laugh and pulled out his phone from his pocket. Actually, I got to show you the best one, because the picture was so good. Ryan showed me the image that he now has saved onto his phone. Its a fairly popular internet meme with a person eating a popsicle - and the caption about how a disappointing and salty taste has been left behind for Flyers fans. I had to laugh, Ryan said when he saw that picture. I sent it to my Mom and I was like youre going to love this. The irony of course, is that everybody in Philadelphia assumed that Ryan wanted to come home and play near his family and friends. Instead, Ryan shared a good laugh with his mom over the disappointment that Flyers fans were feeling. His Twitter feed being flooded by Philadelphia fans is nothing new for Ryan, who says that he has constantly been bombarded by them over the years. I was getting like 100 (tweets) per day at one point last summer and it was incredible, Ryan explained. But I think anybody who has social media goes through that from their hometown, but mine was just a little more in the media because of the trade rumours. Its daily and its constant what I get from Flyers fans -- and theyre great. They are awesome and I understand they want a hometown kid to play there. As for the mood from Flyers fans yesterday, Ryan said that the majority of them were actually fairly good-natured about his decision to stay in Ottawa instead of testing the free agent waters next summer. Most of them were pretty good. They said congratulations and we wish you luck anyway. I had a couple of ignorant ones where you just end up blocking the guy, said Ryan. But the most outpouring was from Sens fans and it was great. Flyers fans can be forgiven for assuming that Ryan would want to return to Philadelphia as an NHL player because for a while, it looked like the script was playing out perfectly. After his trade from Anaheim to Ottawa last season, many signs pointed to Ryan possibly testing out free agency on July 1, 2015. Even the 26-year-old Ryan -- who grew up in suburban Philadelphia -- admitted that the thought of returning home had crossed his mind. I always felt like it was -- not that it was destined -- but the way the stars were aligning over the past couple of years, that maybe it was a potential. But I never gave it much thought beyond that. I thought, Maybe it would be cool. And it was always flattering, he said. Ryan said he was extra cautious over the past year to make sure he didnt create a social media firestorm by favouriting or re-tweeting someones tweet about him going to the Flyers. Other NHL stars like Steven Stamkos and Evander Kane have gotten into hot water for doing similar things, so Ryan said he made sure he only interacted with some well-known parody accounts or people who were clearly joking about him going back to Philadelphia. Ill retweet or favorite some of those guys, but thats about it. You really have to pick your spots because people take things the wrong way way too often on Twitter. They cant pick up sarcasm on Twitter a lot of the time, Ryan said. For the record, Ryans first visit to Philadelphia this season is on January 6th and if the Flyers fans live up to their reputation, he can probably expect to hear a chorus of boos when he touches the puck at the Wells Fargo Center. Thiago Silva Paris Saint-Germain Jersey .Y. -- As if the worst start in franchise history isnt bad enough, Buffalo Sabres President Ted Black braced his teams win-starved fans for potentially more tough times. Marco Verratti Paris Saint-Germain Jersey . The deals were announced on Friday. Beckham will receive $4.175 million in base salary, while De Aza will receive $4.25 million. Beckham hit .267 with five home runs and 24 RBIs over 103 games last season, his fifth with the White Sox. . - Pete Rose didnt want it to be about him, not on a day when four new members were elected to baseballs most exclusive club.WINNIPEG - Blue Bombers quarterback Brian Brohm will make his first CFL start under less than ideal conditions. The Winnipeg backup will be throwing behind a revamped offensive line when he fills in for regular starter Drew Willy (hand) on Saturday against the visiting Calgary Stampeders. Brohms team is also mired in a six-game losing skid while Calgary has lost just twice this season and leads the CFLs overall standings. You can watch the game tonight starting at 7pm et/4pm pt on TSN1, TSN3, TSN4 and TSN 5. Brohm, who got word Friday morning that he would start, said hes up for the challenge. Yeah we have some new guys that are getting their first experience just like me, so we dont know exactly how theyre going to perform, he said. But we have confidence in them that theyre going to go out there and do the job. I feel good about those guys up front. Hopefully they feel good about me throwing the ball behind them. Were going to go out there as a group and do our best. Calgary (12-2) is coming off a bye week and can clinch first place in the West Division with a victory. A loss will provide another blow to Winnipegs fading playoff hopes. The Stampeders will have starting quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell back in the lineup after he missed three games with knee and ankle injuries. Very, very eager, Mitchell said when asked how hes feeling. Im definitely just ready to get back on the field with the guys. Brohm, who has played in three games this season, filled in for Willy in last weeks 41-9 loss to Edmonton. Willy fumbled in the second quarter and then hurt his right hand when he lunged and fell while trying to stop Eskimos linebacker Dexter McCoil. Bombers head coach Mike OShea said Willy just didnt have enough grip strength in his right hand to make longer throws so it was a no-brainer to start Brohm, who took all the reps this week. The six-foot-three Brohm was a 2008 draft pick of the NFLs Green Bay Packers. He was later waived and picked up by Buffalo, but his last start with the Bills was in 2010. This will be the first time the Stampeders and Bombers have played each other this season. Calgary head coach John Hufnagel said he isnt too familiar with Brohm. I know that he throws the ball very well, he said. He can be dangerous. Were going to have to be ready for him. Brohm signed with the Bombers last year, but injured his left elbow in a pre-season game and didnt see action again. He almost started a game a few weeks ago but Willy recovered from a shoulder injury in time to make the start. Sttampeders running back Jon Cornish missed one day of practice this week with the flu, but hes ready to continue his climb up the rushing ladder. Kevin Trapp Paris Saint-Germain Jersey. Hes at 817 yards on the season, just 32 behind leader Anthony Allen from Saskatchewan. Bombers linebacker Johnny Sears said hes looking forward to going up against Cornish. We know what he brings, he said. We know what the whole team brings. Theyve got a good offensive line so weve got to make sure we stay in our gaps. Weve got to be stout against this run game this week. Sears was moved to linebacker this week from halfback and backup defensive back Don Unamba is starting at linebacker. Winnipegs defence has allowed a league-high 129.3 yards rushing per game. Calgarys is the second stingiest at 91.2 yards. The Stamps defence is also second in the league with 18.8 points allowed per game, while the offence is tops with 28 points per game. Mitchell said Winnipegs defence, which has allowed the second-most points per game (27.1), is better than the numbers suggest. I think theyve been put in some tough situations and given short fields on defence so I think the stats kind of lie a bit, Mitchell said. Theyre better than what the stats show. Winnipegs revamped offensive line features Jace Daniels, who arrived in Winnipeg on Oct. 7 and replaced injured left tackle Glenn January (back). Matthias Goossen will suit up for his second game of the season at right guard. Centre Steve Morley, right guard Devin Tyler and Chris Greaves at left guard round out the group. The last two games, weve got blown out both games and now we have the No. 1 team coming in Calgary, Morley said. Its not impossible, but I think if everything goes right we have a chance to pull this one out. Winnipeg also had some upheaval this week in the backfield. Starting running back Nic Grigsby asked for and received his release after he was told hed be sitting out for a second straight game in favour of Paris Cotton. Cotton has 19 carries for 51 yards this season, including eight for 31 yards last week against Edmonton. I approach everything as a pro, Cotton said. That situation (with Grigsby) was unfortunate, but it hasnt changed me at all. Notes: The Stampeders are changing their field-goal unit. Receiver Brad Sinopoli (a former quarterback) will hold for placekicker Rene Paredes instead of punter Rob Maver. … Calgary is 6-1 on the road this season while the Bombers are 3-4 at home. Winnipeg is 1-6 against West Division opponents while the Stampeders are 5-1.
